Sherri Helterbran, Licensed Professional Counselor, MAED, MAPC, LPC

My life’s mission is helping individuals tap into the inner strength and courage they possess to face those things that life may have thrown at them, heal the residual effects of those things and uncover the peace and joy each of us so deserves. I believe that with hard work, compassion, and the correct support, individuals can create lasting change in their lives. While taking the first step is often the hardest, this first step tends to lead to the second, third, and so on, until you build momentum to make the desired change and move into a life that is happier and fulfilled. I encourage you to take that first step. It may not be easy, but it will be worth it. We’ll take this journey together, one step at a time.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, qualified Clinical Supervisor and EMDR-certified therapist. I hold a Master of Arts in Professional Counseling from Ottawa University and Master of Arts in Educational Counseling from University of Phoenix. I am a trained EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) counselor and am currently working towards certification. I am also trained in Brainspotting, CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy).

I use a client-centered approach that is grounded in reality and solution focused. I choose treatment modalities that I believe will best suit your unique situation.  Every one of us is different and treatment direction is carefully considered with you as an individual. We will work together to establish goals and develop an individualized plan that best suits your needs.

My passion is working with trauma, as I believe that many life, mood and personality issues people struggle with are a result of dysfunctional coping skills developed as a result of trauma or neglect. I have experience working with difficult and complex trauma, dissociative disorders, and personality and mood disorders. I have discovered that people can, and do, learn new skills and ways of coping that lessen the burden and enhance their lives.
